Our Stories🍃
It all began on a quiet winter morning, during a simple walk through nature.
Growing up in a village in Gujarat, my connection to the land has always been instinctive — the soil, the seasons, the rhythm of life. As the world around me started embracing organic food and mindful living, I couldn't help but notice something missing: we nourish our bodies with care, but what about our clothes?
There was a time when buying a new outfit was special — reserved for Diwali, birthdays, or weddings. Today, shopping has become routine, mindless even. That contrast stirred something within me.
Why don’t we treat what we wear with the same reverence we give to what we eat?
This thought unraveled into a journey into the world of sustainable, organic fabrics and India’s deeply rooted textile heritage. It was Khadi that captivated me the most. A visit to Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad became a turning point. Among its quiet corridors and spinning wheels, I felt something stir.
As we came to know that this timeless craft was still practiced in the heart of Saurashtra’s villages, we packed our bags with childlike excitement and set out on a road trip we’ll never forget. The journey led us far from the chaos of city life, into a world where time seemed to slow down. where life moved gently and people still rose with the sun. The homes there told stories of time gone by: thick mud walls that kept the heat out, carved wooden doors that creaked with age, charpais lying under neem trees, and tulsi growing in hand-swept courtyards. Sitting with the weavers, sharing cups of chai, watching them work — we weren’t just learning about a craft. We were witnessing a way of life.
Our journey led us to Udyog Bharati in Gondal, where we had the privilege of meeting the very hands that spin stories into yarn. One artisan spoke of how he learned to weave from his grandfather; another showed us the loom he had used for over 40 years, his fingers dancing over it with devotion and quiet rhythm. There was pride in their silence, history in every thread.
But alongside that pride was a heavy truth — many of these artisans belong to the last generation keeping this tradition alive. Their children are drifting towards cities, towards different futures. The looms may one day fall silent. And that realization broke my heart.
We are at the brink of losing not just a craft, but a cultural inheritance.
And so, Karp Kosh was born — not just as a brand, but as a promise.
A promise to honor our roots.
To preserve what matters.
To slow down, and to dress with purpose.
At Karp Kosh, every piece is crafted with natural fibers, spun with care by the hands of Indian artisans. Every thread carries a whisper of the past, a hope for the future.
Join us in weaving a new story — one garment, one artisan, one memory at a time.
